There were mixed feelings over the strength of milk production during the month of December. The increase in milk production of 1.7% in the top 23 states was above expectations with production in all 50 states increasing 1.6%. This puts annual milk production up 2.1% for the year. Fourth-quarter milk production was up 0.9%. Milk production per cow in both the top 23 states and nationwide was 30 pounds higher than November. Cow numbers increase 6,000 head in the top 23 states from the previous month. U.S cow numbers increased 16,000 more than a year ago. There were five ...
