Activity in cattle country is typically limited to the distribution of new showlists. We expected ready numbers to be about steady with last week. Early asking prices are likely to be around $152 in the South and $145 plus in the North. Perennially short bought hog buyers have started work this morning with bids ranging from steady to $2 higher. Most of the early effort appears to be 0.50-$2 higher. Several plants are down for maintainence, so it looks like the initial round of hog slaughter will fall well under 400,000 head. The corn trade is 5-7 cents ...
