The cash hog market has opened with bids of steady to 0.50 lower. Given frigid temperatures across production country, early movement may be very light and it may take stronger bids to motivate sellers to open barns. Furthermore, the extreme cold blast will no doubt limit slaughter activity (e.g., several pork plants in Illinois are dark, while other will be operating one shift only), thanks to both limited movement and mechanical difficulties.
