GENERAL COMMENTS:

The cash hog market has opened this morning with generally steady bids. As expected, both buyer and seller interest should remain quite narrow right before the Christmas break. Feedlot country is very quiet in the early rounds. We've seen a few token bids of $129 in parts of the South. If anyone bothers to ask, some feedlots will price cattle around $132 to $133 in the South and $210-plus in the North. Fire erupted inside the Cargill plant near Dodge City last night.
