GENERAL COMMENTS:

The cash hog trade has opened with bids ranging from steady to $1 lower. Early estimates of the Saturday kill are close to 140,000 head. Cattle country is quiet following moderately active business that surfaced on Thursday. Most sales were generally steady with last week (i.e., $132 in the South, $209 in the North). Asking prices on the balance of showlists are around $133-134 in the South and $210 plus in the North. We could see a light round of clean-up trade develop, but the lion's share of the week's marketing chore appear to be completed.
