GENERAL COMMENTS:

The cash cattle market was typically slow for a Monday with buyers interested in little more than the collection of new showlists. The new offering is mixed, larger in the North, considerably smaller in Kansas, and close to unchanged in Texas. Overall, ready numbers appear to be unchanged. A few asking prices were posted around $148 in the South and $240-plus in the North. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base is $2.42 lower compared with the Prior Day settlement ($105.00-$116.75, weighted average $108.35).
