GENERAL COMMENTS:

The cash cattle market was a non-starter Tuesday with both bids and asking prices poorly defined. A few showlists were prices around $154 in the South and $245 to $246-plus in the North. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base compared with the Prior Day's closing weighted average is $0.88 ($91.00 to $105.00, weighted average $103.28). Corn futures surged sharply higher with most contracts advancing by 10 to 13 cents, lifted by short covering and outside market strength.
