GENERAL COMMENTS:

While packer inquiry started to improve in cattle feeding country (i.e., with bids of $142 in the South, $224 in the North), the cash market remained untested. Asking prices held firm at $145 in the South and $230-plus in the North. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base compared with the Prior Day's closing weighted average is $2.09 higher ($80.00 to $92.75, weighted average $90.42). The corn rally continued (i.e., contracts closing another 4 cents plus higher), powered by further dryness in Brazil and troubling implications of unrest in Ukraine.
