GENERAL COMMENTS:

The cash cattle trade jumped sharply higher at midweek as short-bought packers almost ran around in panic clutching blank checks. The best movement surfaced in the North where dressed prices shot $11-$13 higher (i.e., mostly $239-$240). Most live deals in the region were market at $150, $6 higher than the previous week. Business in the South surfaced earlier at $147 ($5 higher), but selling interest soon dried up once area feedlot managers heard reports of more aggressive spending in the North.
