GENERAL COMMENTS:

The cash cattle trade turned quite active immediately following the holiday with another round of sharply higher bids attracting significant selling interest. Live sales in the South were mostly $137, higher in Texas and $4-$5 in Kansas. Northern dressed business was mostly $217-$218, $4-$5 higher. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base compared with the Prior Day's closing weighted average is $1.62 ($72.00 to $80.00, weighted average $78.75). Corn futures traded higher for most of the session, yet South American rainfall and imploding bean contracts caused the market to ultimately settle 1-2 cents lower. The ...
