GENERAL COMMENTS:

The cash cattle trade was generally quiet with buyers and sellers preoccupied with last-minute shopping at the mall. Having said that, at least one Northern regional was willing to pay $210 for a few pens in Nebraska. Asking prices remain firm at $132 to $133 in the South and $210 to $212 in the North. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base weighted average was $74.33, with a base price range of $70 to $77. Corn futures closed fractionally higher, up 1/4 in the March, May and July contracts.
