GENERAL COMMENTS:

The cash cattle area was typically quiet as buyers limited their focus to the collection of new showlists. Ready numbers are generally lighter, especially in the South. Preliminary asking prices seem to be around $125 in the South and $196-plus in the North. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base closed $1.09 higher compared with the Prior Day settlement $83.00-$98.00 (weighted average $96.48). Corn futures settled several cents lower, pressured by a sharp break in the bean pit and nervousness about harvest potential.
