GENERAL COMMENTS:

Although cattle buying interest improved in most areas through the day, the distance between bids ($127 live; $200-$201) and asking prices ($130 live; $205-plus dressed) remained too great to spark significant trade volume. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base closed 0.40 lower compared with the Prior Day settlement ($70.95-$76.75, weighted average $74.66). Corn futures settled mostly 2-6 cents lower as strength in the wheat pit trumped weakness in the bean market.
