Kazakhstan Harvest Yields Up

MOSCOW (Dow Jones) -- Kazakhstan has begun this year's grain harvest with yields higher than in 2012, the agriculture ministry said Tuesday though the total amount harvested is down from the same time a year earlier as rains delayed harvesting this year.

The ministry said grain harvest to Aug. 27 totaled 1.922 million metric tons on 1.421 million hectares with an average yield of 1.35 tons a hectare. On the same date last year the harvest was 3.675 million tons with an average yield of 0.78 tons/ha.
