(Dow Jones) -- Soft wheat production in the European Union will rise 2% next year to 138 million tons, analyst Strategie Grains said Thursday, citing higher sowings by farmers in its first estimate for next year's harvest.

The analyst said soft wheat plantings in the region will increase 4% on year.

EU soft wheat production will increase by an overall total of 5.8 million tons across the U.K., Sweden and Denmark, compared with a total 2.4 million ton decline in Germany, France, Spain and Poland.
