Romania Wheat Harvest Hits 8-Year High

BUCHAREST (Dow Jones) -- Romania this year reaped its biggest wheat and rye crop since 2005 and the second-largest in more than four decades, Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin said Friday, news agency Mediafax reports.

The wheat and rye harvest rose 37% year-on-year to 7.3 million tons in 2013, he added. Yield levels rose to 3,472 kilograms per hectare, from 2,650 kilograms per hectare in 2012.

Record production was also registered for barley, oat and rape, the minister said.
