Autumn's shadows are lengthening and the days are getting shorter. With each passing day, winter is growing closer. Some of you may already have snow on the ground. Others have seen temperatures drop 70 to 80 degrees from just a few days ago.

Looking out my window as I write this column, the cloudy sky is slate gray as a backdrop for the last wet leaves clinging to the increasingly skeleton-like trees. A late-fall malaise is settling in.
