By my calculations, the United States' corn harvest hit its official halfway point at about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012. Once the soybean crop (41% harvested on Sunday, according to the most recent USDA Crop Progress report) hits its own halfway mark, the nation's row-crop farmers will be on the home stretch to finishing one very historic growing season. Stories about the drought of 2012 will continue being told generations from now.
