OUTSIDE MARKETS

Toronto's S&P/TSX index is currently trading up 30.98 points to 12,501.42. Canadian unemployment fell to 7.1%, its lowest in four years. While economists estimated new jobs in December to be 5,000, this morning's report indicated a total of 40,000 new jobs. U.S. job growth for December was also slightly above expectations. The Canadian dollar has rallied back to $1.1020 CAD/US dollar, up 6 points. The U.S. dollar has given up a great deal of its earlier gains and is currently up only .095 to 80.615.
