Outside Markets

Asian markets traded mixed on Monday, while European markets remain closed. Japan's Nikkei moved sharply lower with a reported smaller than expected improvement in business sentiment. Canada's TSX equity market closed at 12,749.90, up 50.25 on Thursday, the same day that the S&P 500 index reached a record high. The Dow futures were 17 basis points lower overnight, indicating what should be a weak open in North American markets Monday. The Canadian dollar is 2 basis points lower at $.9819 CAD/U.S. dollar.
