STREATOR, Ill. (DTN) -- A late, wet corn crop has spurred increased drying demand in the Midwest. That is causing a shortage of propane supplies and prompting multiple states in the region to suspend federal regulations on trucking hours to ensure delivery of the fuel to farmers.

South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard signed an executive order Oct. 23 declaring a state of emergency that waives the hours-of-service rules to ensure expedited commercial deliveries of the fuel. Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton and Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad followed with similar actions Oct. 24.
