We (analysts) tend to talk about the market as if it is one big monolithic entity, moving up or down as opinions change with the news of the day. Of course, we understand there are countless opinions that move the markets, but we simplify things to make the conversation easier. I am all for simplifying, but it is important to recognize there are primarily two distinct perspectives at work: the commercial perspective and the noncommercial perspective. Understanding the overall market becomes easier when you consider the differences between the two.
