GENERAL COMMENTS:

According to the midday report, the National hog base compared with the Prior Day's closing weighted average is $4.07 lower ($85.00 to $99.00, weighted average $94.51). Note that this test of negotiated dressed business seems quite light with only 3,291 head reported. The cash cattle market is typically quiet for a Monday with packers limiting efforts to the collection of new showlists. Positively, ready numbers appear to be smaller than last week, with significant reductions in Texas and Nebraska offsetting increases in Kansas and Colorado.
