GENERAL COMMENTS:

Despite narrow but mixed trade activity through much of the morning, live cattle futures are trading sharply lower following rumors that beef plants will go idle in Texas due to cattle shortages. The active midday trade may quickly reach limit-down trade in live cattle and feeder cattle markets. Corn futures are trading lower at midday in light trade. March corn futures are holding 4 cent losses at midday. Stock markets are higher in light trade. The Dow Jones is 84 points higher while Nasdaq is up 19 points.
