GENERAL COMMENTS:

Cattle country was generally quiet as packers limited their early week efforts to the collection of new showlists. While the size of the early August offering varies from states to state, the general scope of the ready cattle offering appears to be smaller than last week. A few feedlot managers suggested asking prices of $165 in the South and $265 plus in the North. According to the closing report, the national hog base is $3.22 lower compared with the Prior Day settlement ($109.00-$119.00, weighted average $115.68).
