Sometime in the late 1920s, after countless nights of craning his neck through the nooks and crannies of the Milky Way, Edward Hubble concluded that the universe was indeed still expanding in the wake of the Big Bang, that first true spark of herd building launched 13.8 billion years ago.

Talk about the long view.
