Here is a modern Good Samaritan tale set in farm country: One blustery winter evening a few years ago, Martin Goedken was driving home to his farm in northwest Missouri. The thermometer was plunging, and temperatures of 10 degrees Fahrenheit were predicted overnight. Along the side of the road, Goedken's headlights picked up someone hitchhiking. It was a young Hispanic man in a jacket far too light for the weather.
