DECATUR, ILL. (DTN) -- Public breeding programs were once the lifeblood of the soybean industry. Roger Boerma should know. He developed some 25 soybean varieties for Southeastern producers during his four decades of tenure at the University of Georgia. He has received six plant variety protection certificates and six patents, and has four patents pending.

Boerma is the executive director of Georgia Seed Development. He oversees a program that produces foundation plant material and markets seed and plant materials designed to improve crop yields for growers in Georgia and across the United States.
