General Comments:

Corn futures closed lower Tuesday even after the USDA said Monday that corn conditions dropped from 75% good to excellent to 73% for the week ending August 3. Forecasts for rain and new-crop forecasts from various market firms also pressured the market. Informa Economics estimated corn would yield 168 bpa with a production of 13.988 billion bushels. FCStone estimated corn yields at record 172.4 bpa with a record production of 14.455 billion bushels. Soybeans closed lower after the USDA said that the condition of the soybean crop was unchanged from the previous week at 71% good to excellent. ...
