There is a certain process the market goes through each year as a new crop year starts for corn. No matter what the early estimates are, the road to harvest is fraught with uncertainty until the crop proves itself in the field. On May 12, corn took a major step toward USDA's estimate of 13.935 billion bushels when USDA said planting progress jumped from 29% to 59% complete and was then followed by a week of good planting weather and a forecast for warmer temperatures in the next week ahead.
