Monsanto Buys Climate Corp

OMAHA (DTN) --- Monsanto Co. it is getting into the weather analytics and crop insurance businesses with the announced purchase Wednesday of The Climate Corporation for $930 million.

The sale reflects the biotech giant is broadening its agricultural portfolio into weather monitoring, agronomic data and weather simulations for farmers.

In a news release, Monsanto stated that buying The Climate Corporation would provide farmers more access to information "about the many factors that affect the success of their crops. The companies' combined capabilities will support greater productivity while using the planet's finite resources more precisely, Monsanto stated.
