Sometimes simple works best. That's the transition plan for the Alverson family, which farms near Chester, S.D.

Brothers Ron and Larry Alverson farm the land once worked by their father, Eugene, and his brother Charles. As they reach their early 60s, Ron and Larry are now working with Ron's son Keith to keep the Alverson farming tradition alive, and they are doing it by following a pattern set up by the earlier generation.


It's a no-frills approach that appeals to them because it doesn't involve a lot of paperwork and requires minimal legal fees.
