MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- Economists warned agricultural bankers this week to make sure they watch out for metaphorical canaries that could signal higher risks to some farm customers, particularly those already highly leveraged.

The American Bankers Association ag bankers meeting was promoted with the phrase "We Can't Dream Big Enough," but the take-home message was more about making sure the agricultural economy prepares for the downside of the farm cycle.

Bankers will be increasingly looking at their farm customers' leverage situation.
