GENERAL COMMENTS:

The cash cattle trade remains dead quiet with initial bids far below asking prices. A few bids in the South are noted at $142 to $143, well below asking prices of $148 to $150. Significant trade volume may not develop until late this afternoon. According to the midday report, the national hog base is $0.05 lower compared with the Prior Day settlement ($77.50-82.00, weighted average $79.99). Corn futures are lower, down about 1 cent.
