GENERAL COMMENTS:

Feedlot country is death quiet near the noon hour with both sides puzzling over what to make of the struggling board. Though we don't hear much talk, asking prices remain firm at $134 in the South and $210-plus in the North. According to the midday report, the Iowa hog base is $3.30 higher compared with the Prior Day settlement ($65.00-83.00, weighted average $81.51). Corn futures are mixed near the top of the noon hour in light trade volume. Equities are modestly higher at midday with the Dow up 22 points and the Nasdaq near steady.
