NASHVILLE, Tenn. (DTN) -- Fresh South American beef could be back on American tables, unless meat industry players like the National Cattlemen's Beef Association get their way.

In December, USDA issued a proposed rule that would allow imports of fresh (chilled and frozen) boneless beef from 14 states in Brazil. The agency is also considering a change to the 14-year-old ban on fresh Argentinian beef and live cattle after the release of a new USDA risk analysis.
