Well, my string of good luck in finding fascinating old books about grain continues! For 50 cents at a library book sale, I picked up a first edition of what I suspect is a very rare book indeed (at least I had never heard of it): "Corn Country" written by Homer Croy and published by Duell, Sloan and Pearce in 1947.

Had you heard of Homer Croy? I never had, but apparently he was like a postwar Garrison Keillor from Maryville, Mo. -- a Will Rogers type whose legacy has largely faded in the past 50 years. The book itself ...
