Tips for Using Manure on Crops

OMAHA (DTN) -- Farmers and livestock producers should be aware of the food safety risks of using manure or composted manure and follow tips to protect crops from potential contamination, according to the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

Wayne Du, an on-farm food safety specialist, recently focused on the issue in the department's specialty crops blog. He explained the difference between manure and composted manure is manure is the raw or untreated animal excrement with or without bedding, while composted manure is the manure that has been treated or processed to eliminate or reduce harmful bacteria.
