This is just a wild guess, but something tells me that between the government shutdown, the pending debt-ceiling crisis, the market information blackout and the seasonal demands of harvest, most readers haven't given much thought about celebrating Columbus Day.

Unless you're the president of the local "Sons of Italy" chapter, next Monday's parade could slip by unnoticed, a blip on your personal radar smaller than the Santa Maria bobbing in the big fat Atlantic.
