OSHA Cites West Fertilizer

OMAHA (DTN) -- West Fertilizer Co. has been cited for 24 "serious" safety violations and is facing $118,300 in fines as a result of the April fire and explosion in West, Texas, that killed 15 people and injured more than 200.

Though the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is closed as part of the federal government shutdown, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., made the announcement during a press conference Thursday.

"Many other agencies are doing investigations," Boxer said. "There could be other fines as well."
