Analysis Offers Path to WTO Compliance

OMAHA (DTN) -- The United States can comply with a World Trade Organization ruling that the country-of-origin labeling law is unfair by providing more information and more accurate details to consumers about labeled meat products, according to a legal analysis released by the National Farmers Union earlier this week.

The analysis performed by Washington, D.C.-based law firm Stewart and Stewart said complying with the WTO would not require producers or processors to collect additional information. Instead, it could be accomplished by strengthening the regulations to provide more information to consumers.
