OMAHA (DTN) -- Corn growers in the northern tier of the Corn Belt may be re-examining planting options after this weekend. Sunday, May 25, is the final planting date for corn crop insurance in North and South Dakota.

Growers can choose to continue to plant corn after Sunday, but there is a 1% drop in insurance coverage per day for every late day, up to 25 days.

North Dakota's corn crop was 17% planted as of May 18, according to USDA's latest weekly crop progress report. That is 37 percentage points behind the five-year average of 54%. ...
