Ryan Ag Cuts Projected Higher

WASHINGTON (DTN) -- The federal budget proposal in the House of Representatives would cut $49 billion out of commodity and conservation programs, which is a larger figure than numbers released earlier this week and unacceptably high for House Agriculture Committee ranking member Collin Peterson.

Peterson, a Democrat from Minnesota, told DTN in an interview Thursday the 2014 plan offered by Budget Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., not only wants the Agriculture Committee to cut $31 billion out of commodity programs over the next decade, but also $18 billion out of conservation programs.
