I remember being with Dad, parked in his pickup along some nameless dirt country road in southwest Kansas, nonstop wind picking up dirt from newly planted wheat fields, turning the sky a murky grayish brown, giving the sun an unnatural hazy look. On the pickup's AM radio, Kansas' (the band) melancholy "Dust in the Wind" would start to play, capturing the mood perfectly. Dad would grumble a bit then sigh resignedly. One of his favorite sayings was, "The wind won't stop blowing until it rains, and it won't rain until the wind stops blowing." What could he do? One's hands ...
