If taken at face value, Tuesday's survey-based round of USDA numbers implied caution on the government's part when it comes to national average yields for both corn and soybeans. Why can't these numbers be taken as real? Because of the survey-based component itself. If I'm a farmer, and an agent calls and asks me what my yield is going to be, what do you think my response is?
