Lawmakers Seek Action on Propane

STREATOR, Ill. (DTN) -- Short supplies of propane, especially in the upper Midwest where rural consumers use the fuel for space heating, triggered a flurry of actions by lawmakers in the past few days to tackle the challenges brought on by the extreme cold.

Limited supply and high prices have hit rural areas hard, where an estimated 14 million households consume propane for space heating.

In response, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., asked President Barack Obama to limit propane exports.
