Pest Alert: Grain Aphids

LAWRENCE, KAN. (DTN) -- As growers across the Midwest prepare seedbeds and plant winter wheat, some entomologists recommend keeping grain aphid populations in mind.

"We've had aphid problems probably for the last three years, more so than in the past," University of Missouri Extension entomologist Wayne Bailey told DTN. "I wouldn't call it a huge outbreak. I think they're just increasing. Some of these guys haven't seen them before in much number, and it's kind of a shock to the system that they have that many out there."
