Price Makes an Excellent Fertilizer

There is an old market axiom that price makes an excellent fertilizer, usually used to explain sharp increases in production following a tight stocks situation and the accompanying high prices. After all, high prices are a signal the market wants more supply. Sometimes producers can't deliver the demanded goods, i.e. the current feeder cattle and hog markets. Sometimes they can.
