In my trusted, well-used, 30-plus-year-old American Heritage Dictionary a conundrum (noun) is defined as, "A difficult and complicated problem." Other sources say it is "a problem that evades resolution." It is also a type of puzzle where one has to detangle a series of complicated pieces (similar to the one DTN's Nick Scalise put together as a picture for this column) to solve. The worst thing is, you then have to put it back together or it's a one-time-only challenge.
