DECATUR, Ill. (DTN) -- Those ugly, yield-robbing patches of waterhemp, marestail and other stubborn weeds are a growing problem for farmers. For weed scientist Terry Wright, they are a puzzle that calls for innovation.

In 2003, the then group leader of herbicide discovery at Dow AgroSciences was charged with the task of finding a herbicide alternative to glyphosate. The work of Wright and his team of scientists ultimately resulted in the development of Dow's 2,4-D tolerant traits, which will be marketed as a part of the Enlist Weed Control System, pending approvals.
